Trade Journals are a great way to get your name and information out to the audience that you want to attract, but what all goes into writing a great trade journal article? Today we will be focusing specifically on the editing process of a good trade journal article with advice from one of our very own team members, Deidre Mundy!
What Does the Editing Process look like?
If you are hoping that running an article through an editing software will be enough to polish it to perfection, there is another thing coming your way. Editing can sometimes take anywhere between 2-6 hours. Deidre says that the key points of the editing process includes “making sure that all language is clear and readable, tracking down citations for any research, quotes, or facts, checking to make sure that facts presented in the article are correct, and cutting the article down to the appropriate length for the targeted journal.” This may sound like a lot to do, but editing well is the best way to get the best work possible. Another tip is that different publications may require differerent formats, so be sure to carefully read the requirements before submitting to any publication.
Is it Hard to Get Published?
The short answer is: yes, but that does not mean that you should stop trying. You may get rejected by numerous publications before the right one finds you and that’s okay! Also remember to take any feedback that you are given into consideration for the future, and if you are getting consistently rejected, it might be a good idea to re-evaluate (and re-edit) your article.
